The Bridging Education Grant in Nursing (BEGIN) program is funded by the Ontario Government, the Ministry of Long-Term Care, and the Ministry of Health, and managed by WeRPN, a non-profit professional association for registered practical nurses in Ontario, that recognizes the value of the need for nurses in Long Term Care and the Community sectors.
The BEGIN program will run for 4 years and provide educational funding to support PSWs and RPNs who are enrolled in practical nursing (PN) or BScN education streams, and are willing to commit to a return of service agreement.
The program offers a continuum of services to enable participant success, and upon graduation to experience the rich environments that the Long-Term Care and the Community sectors offer. The program will support over 4,000 individuals to achieve successful completion of their nursing program, entry to practice examination, and job acquisition in the Long-Term Care or Community sector and oversee the completion of return of service agreements.
WeRPN is looking for Case Managers to support the success of students enrolled in the BEGIN program. This includes overseeing tuition and support payment applications, assessing participant individual and academic needs, providing support and coaching, coordinating funding, and gauging progress from application acceptance to return of service completion. Case managers will work with individuals from BEGIN application, acceptance, and successful completion of their return of service agreement, other team members, and ultimately employers.
Case managers must have excellent listening and communication skills, be supportive and positive and the ability to coach a diverse group of students across the province. The successful candidate will be required to work from our Mississauga office, with some remote work during restrictions. Attendance at in-person meetings will be required at our Mississauga office.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director, Innovation & Program Initiatives and reporting to the Coordinator, BEGIN Program, the Case Manager will be responsible to:- Process, assess and evaluate tuition and support payment applications
- Review, analyze and validate information provided by applicants; verify accuracy and completeness of documents and eligibility for disbursements
- Monitor and follow-up on the status of all pending documents
- Communicate BEGIN program expectations to applicants; respond to inquiries and provide accurate information regarding the program terms and conditions, eligibility criteria, application requirements, processes and procedures
- Advise applicants of their obligations to meet program requirements and the potential consequences related to their application and funding process
- Process and manage changes on the application, including withdrawals from the program and collecting any repayment due from applicant
- Maintain a client case load as assigned by Director/ Coordinator
- Provide 1:1 support for participants as they work towards program completion, registration, employment and return of service, with ongoing monitoring and follow-up service when needed
- Provide exam and career supports as necessary
- Maintain comprehensive records using standardized documentation
- Maintain proper administration of applicant’s documentation, reports and batch processes; ensure that all processing of applications is carried out in a way that ensures required standards and data integrity are maintained
- Maintain reports and detailed spreadsheets on applications received including tuition and support payments
- Support participants as they prepare to write the nursing registration examination
- Facilitate information sessions, workshops as required
- Collaborate with staff and participate in team meetings
- Acting as the resource as it relates to registration, professional liability insurance and financial assistance
- Engage in growing and maintaining a positive, supportive and collaborative professional culture throughout organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Preferably a Registered Practical Nurse, in good standing with the CNO, member of professional association
- Baccalaureate degree an asset
- Previous Case Manager experience, preferred
- 3-5 years of clinical/education experience, ideally in community or long-term care
- Proficient computer skills including experience with database systems, Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word) and virtual platforms
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking and analytical skills
- Experience in, and understanding of, the Ontario health care system
- Strong communication skills in English – written, verbal and presentation skills
- Program planning, career development skills and experience an asset
- Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, interpersonal and team skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills to perform effectively/efficiently, be resourceful and anticipate needs when faced with revised workload priorities and changing deadlines.
Jon Type & Duration: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Location: Mississauga, ON (flex scheduling)
