Career Profiles:
Harpal Kaur Bajwa, RPN

Harpal Kaur Bajwa is a RPN with a passion for patient centered care.

Originally from India, Harpal began her career as an educator for teachers, teaching psychology and methodologies of teaching science for 8 years. Harpal graduated with two Master’s degrees from Guru Nanak University in education and industrial chemistry.

After moving to Canada in 2010, Harpal decided to pursue nursing education at Humber college in 2012. This was a very difficult decision for her because it meant time away from her 6-year-old daughter who missed her mother immensely during her early morning classes and long days of clinical placement. Harpal recalls her daughter asking her to stay home almost every day, which was heartbreaking for Harpal. In the end, Harpal says that those difficult times have paid off and continue to pay off each time her patients thank her for the compassionate care she provides to them.

A lifelong learner, Harpal continued her education after graduating from her nursing program by pursuing additional courses, including an IV and Phlebotomy course, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). She currently works at Brampton Endoscopy where she had completed a placement at as a student. Harpal says that her favorite part of the job is providing patient education, so clients have full understanding of their procedures which in turn makes them feel more comfortable and less anxious.

Harpal says that the greatest benefit of a career in nursing is the change nurses can make in the lives of others. She highlights that this rewarding career makes her proud that she is able to be a friendly face, and provide comfort to those in her care.

Currently, Harpal lives in Brampton with her husband and two daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and volunteering in her community at places such as Guru Gobind Children’s Foundation, and Holland Christian Homes.
