WeRPN welcomes the introduction of the Healthcare Heroes Act by MPP Adil Shamji, which addresses several of the systemic challenges currently facing Ontario’s healthcare workforce, including registered practical nurses (RPNs).
Specifically, the bill’s focus on fair compensation and wage parity across healthcare sectors is a critical step toward retaining experienced nurses—particularly those in long-term, home, and community care, where wage disparities remain a significant challenge. Additionally, the proposed mandatory reporting of workplace violence aligns with the necessary efforts to create safer, more supportive working environments.
WeRPN remains committed to engaging with MPPs from all parties to advance policies that support Ontario’s RPNs and ensure the long-term sustainability of our healthcare system.
