Ontario RPNs support urgent action to curb the spread of COVID-19

by WeRPN

Following the announcement about the Provincial lockdown, WeRPN issued the following statement:

Ontario Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) support the government’s action to curb the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. We are also calling on Ontarians to do their part. With the number of COVID-19 cases growing by the day and the holidays fast approaching, nurses are pleading with Ontarians to stay at home and adhere to public health guidelines to keep everyone’s families, friends and communities safe.

Across the province, nurses, alongside their health care colleagues, continue their dedicated efforts to deliver care to those who need it. Yesterday’s provincial modelling showed alarming predictions for the our health system. Without action now, the pandemic promises to wreak further havoc in the coming weeks, with devastating consequences. The continued spread of COVID-19 risks leaving more Ontarians without access to crutial health services and treatments like elective surgeries. This will also cause additional strain on healthcare workers who are already exhausted after months of battling this virus.

This holiday season, we are asking Ontarians to do everything possible to keep our families, friends and neighbours safe and help ensure our nurses and health care professionals can manage the pressure on our health system. We urge you to do your part, stay home and help everyone have a safe holiday season and healthy new year.
