“The Superior Court of Justice’s decision to strike down Bill 124 is a milestone victory for RPNs across Ontario. The courts have confirmed what Ontario’s RPNs have known for a long time — that Bill 124 violates the rights of nurses and public sector employees.
From the outset of this Bill, WeRPN has been steadfast in advocating for nurses’ right to freely negotiate their collective agreements. Striking down Bill 124 is a key step in making sure RPNs can work toward having better wages and helping provide a stronger incentive to keep nurses in the healthcare system at a time when we urgently need them.
We urge the government not to appeal this decision, but rather work with nurses to ensure fair compensation for the essential work they provide to patients every day.”
